The statue of Sándor Petőfi, the largest and most prominent Hungarian poet, was unveiled on September 22, 2017 in the small park on Senný trh Square next to Petőfi Street in Komárno.
The work was created by the Csongrád sculptor couple Györgyi Lantos and István Máté.The poet in the 1841-1842 school year was a student of the VII. (logical) class in Pápa, where he also became good friends with Mór Jókai and Soma Orlai Petrich. In 1842, at the end of the school year, he went his parents with Orlai, but first they visited Jókai in Komárno for a week. Then wrote Petőfi the poem "A Dunán" (On the Danube).
